Dylan and Eric headed down to the cafeteria at 11:44 AM. Eric stopped on the stairs and knelt down to fire several shots with his carbine at a Duffel bag containing one of the 20-lb propane bombs. It didn't work. Dylan walked over to the same bomb after Eric's failed attempts to detonate it and tampered with something on the floor but again nothing happened. A witness hiding in the cafeteria heard one of the gunmen say: "Today the world's going to come to an end. Today's the day we die."
